A PLACE WHERE CHILDREN CAN GROW. Anafe Becher, a school teacher, cleans up the garden outside her classroom, getting a head start on this week’s Brigada Eskwela drive.

THE Department of Education (DepEd) will launch this year’s Brigada Eskwela, an end-of-summer tradition, in Cebu City today.

The week-long Brigada Eskwela program is scheduled to kick off at the Ramon Duterte Memorial National High School in Barangay Guadalupe at 9 a.m.

Brigada Eskwela will begin with a motorcade from Plaza Independencia in downtown Cebu City to Don Vicente Rama National High School in Basak-Pardo, Cebu Ecotech Center in Lahug and will end at the Don Ramon Duterte Memorial National High School in Guadalupe, said Amaryllis Villarmia, DepEd 7 public information officer.

The region’s 13 divisions and representatives of regional offices from all over the country are expected to be present and will hear from Education Secretary Leonor Briones.

Villarmia said this year’s activity will focus on preparing classrooms that are disaster-resilient.

With the opening of Brigada Eskwela today, public schools nationwide will open their doors to parents, volunteers, civil servants and private companies who will help prepare schools for the opening of classes in June. (JKV)
