‘Mentally ill’ man ‘rapes’ younger sis

Tuesday, July 18, 2017

A man believed to be mentally ill was arrested for allegedly raping his 12-year-old sister in a village in Dalaguete, southern Cebu.

Investigation showed that the victim was nursing a fever and was alone sleeping in their house before the incident happened around 5 p.m. last Saturday.

Anabelle Berondo, head of the Women and Children’s Protection Desk, said that the girl’s mother was hearing mass at a chapel at the time of the incident.

Berondo said the suspect is a 21-year-old 10th grader, while his sister is a sixth grader.

Berondo said the victim woke up after she heard a knock on their door. She opened it and went back to sleep.

But the suspect laid beside the girl and allegedly assaulted her.

The suspect was arrested on the same day after he was reported to Dalaguete Police Station.

The suspect was released yesterday morning, after the mother and sister executed an affidavit of desistance.

He was then brought to the psychiatry department of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City. (KAL)
