‘Pokemon’ helps Doria get his foot in the door

Saturday, July 29, 2017

CEBU City Police Office (CCPO) Director Senior Supt. Joel Doria has become one of the finalists of the Metrobank Foundation’s search for the Country’s Outstanding Police Officers in Service.

Doria credited the CCPO’s “pioneering” anti-drug and anti-criminality program, Oplan Pokemon or One Time Big Time, for the recognition.

“We conducted 30 operations, arrested 1,786 persons, confiscated 2,578 grams of shabu worth more than P80,000,000. Just imagine, because of this campaign, the operations helped lower the crime rate,” Doria said.

Oplan Pokémon was named after a popular augmented reality game, Pokémon Go, in which players try to catch virtual “pocket monsters”.

“When police officers say that they’re conducting an Oplan Sita, lawless elements would already be aware of the operation. Whereas, if operatives say Oplan Pokémon, they would not know until we catch them. Just like in Pokémon, ‘gotta catch them all’,” Doria said.

The awardees will be honored during Metrobank’s 55th anniversary in September. (JOB)
