Joseph Gaviola Lafuente

A GRADUATE from Cebu City got into the Top 10 of the Medical Technologist Licensure Examination of August 2017 that the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced last Thursday.

Louise Joseph Gaviola Lafuente, a graduate of Velez College, ranked ninth with a score of 90.10 percent.

“When I was preparing for the board exam, I wanted to be part of the top 10 but (I thought) my dreams were dashed the moment I took the board exam--it was a really hard exam,” Lafuente said, adding that a lot of what he reviewed did not come out on the test, so he was surprised when the results were out.

“Ever since I was child, I’d wanted to become a doctor—I’ve admired them since I was little. Med-Tech was my first choice, and my mom told me that this was a good preparatory course in medicine, so I took it. My second choice would have been Computer Science/Engineering,” said Lafuente, who also shared that his hobbies include playing video games and reading books.

“I am currently reading a total of around 20 novels, light novels and web novels. In fact, I feel restless whenever a day passes when I can’t play a game or read a book,” said the self-proclaimed bibliophage, who prepared for the examination by taking a review course at the ACTS Review Center.

Marianne Ross Bacia Soldevilla from the Notre Dame of Marbel University ranked first with 90.9 percent, while Glenn Charls Lagumbay Buelis from the University of the Immaculate Conception-Davao ranked second with 90.8 percent.

Cebu Doctors’ University and Velez College were listed among the top performing schools with a 100-percent and 99.04-percent passing rate, respectively.

The PRC also announced that out of 5,661 examinees, 4,821 passed the licensure examination conducted by the Board of Medical Technology in Manila, Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, and Tuguegarao.
