USC graduate tops Aug. 2017 pharmacist licensure exam

Jannylene Rose Chua

A CEBUANO graduate of the University of San Carlos (USC) topped the August 2017 Pharmacist Licensure Examination.

The list of successful examinees released by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) showed that Jannylene Rose Tolentino Chua ranked first, with a rating of 91.10 percent.

Kimberly Tan Lomantas of the University of the Immaculate Conception-Davao ranked second with a rating of 91.05.

Chua is the lone graduate of a Cebu school who landed in the top 10, which was dominated by graduates of the University of the Philippines-Manila and the University of Santo Tomas.

Chua, 20, said that before taking the examination, she had expected to be among the top 10 passers.

“Before I took the exam, I was really expecting to be on that list (top 10). But after I took the exam, I lost hope,” she said.

Chua said she found the exam difficult and had even started apologizing to people who cheered for her, thinking she would not make it.

She said that it helped that she enrolled in a review center to help her determine what lessons she needed to focus on for the review.

Chua, who enjoys reading books and is a fan of Korean drama, dedicated her success to her mother, who guided her in choosing her college course when she couldn’t decide what course to pursue.

“My mother chose the course for me because she is a pharmacist herself. I owe this success to her,” she said.

She also said that she studied hard for the exams so she can repay her parents for their support and their hard work.

“They’ve sacrificed so much for me and my siblings, and knowing that I’ve achieved this goal made them very proud,” Chua continued.
