'Drug pusher' grapples with cop; accidentally shot

Friday, October 06, 2017

A 32-YEAR-OLD suspected drug pusher landed in the hospital after the gun he was grappling with a police officer accidentally fired, hitting the lower parts of his body.

Relan Caya Dano suffered gunshot wounds in stomach and left thigh. He was rushed to a private hospital in Cebu City for treatment.

Superintendent Melbert Glade Esguerra, the town police chief, said the suspect was caught by his Municipal Drug Enforcement Unit (MDEU) in a drug bust at 6:15 a.m. Friday, October 6, in Sitio Cumpang, Barangay Tayud, Liloan, Cebu.

Dano had been listed as a street-level target.

After his arrest, the suspect grabbed the gun of the police officer, who acted as the poseur buyer.

The officer grappled with Dano until the gun went off.

Seized from Dano were eight grams of white crystals believed to be methamphethamine hydrochloride, locally known as "shabu."

The contraband has a Dangerous Drugs Board value of P40,000.

Dano will be charged for violating Sections 5 and 11 (selling and possession of illegal drugs) of Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The suspect already has pending case in court for violating Section 5 of RA 9165. The case stemmed from his arrest made by Liloan Police Station-MDEU. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
