Public told: Help PDEA monitor drug suspects

Friday, October 13, 2017

AN official of the Police Regional Office 7 urged barangay officials and the public to help the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7 in monitoring suspected drug personalities.

“The village folks must be vigilant than ever because if they will not help PDEA, this drug war will not succeed,” said Senior Supt. Jonathan Cabal.

Cabal, who is the Regional Intelligence Division chief, said they will continue their intelligence gathering and relay information to PDEA 7, which is now the sole agency that is in charge of the government’s war on drugs.

The personnel of the disbanded drug enforcement units will be transferred to other units.

Cabal said, though, that police officers are still obliged to help PDEA 7 agents if they are asked to assist them.

Cabal also made clear that they can still arrest persons if they can see them carrying illegal drugs in plain view and will continue to attend court hearings of their arrested drug personalities.

Last January, Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa stopped the anti-illegal drug operations following President Rodrigo Duterte’s order of dismantling all anti-illegal drug units.

Police’s operations resumed last March after a month-long hiatus.

Last Monday, Duterte issued a memoramdum stating that PDEA will be the sole unit to carry out anti-illegal drug operations.

With this, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), for their part, said they will focus on conducting checkpoints to address the problem on pair riding-in-tandem.

CCPO Director Joel Doria said they want to prevent crimes on the streets by intercepting lawless elements on motorcycles.

“We will do our Oplan Sita and checkpoints to focus on anti-criminality and illegal gambling,” he said.

CCPO’s drug-related cases or deaths under investigation will be forwarded to PDEA. (KAL, JOB)
