A 42-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in a village in Tabogon past midnight last Saturday.
Police identified the suspect as Eric Monterola Booc, who allegedly raped his daughter in the past, but the family did not press charges against him.
Booc, this time, will face a complaint for rape in relation to Republic Act (RA) 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
He was reportedly drunk when the incident happened around 12:30 a.m.
Investigation showed that the victim, Elena (real name withheld), attended a fiesta disco in a basketball court. She later asked a male friend to accompany her to a grassy lot to pee.
Elena’s friend stood some distance away while Booc allegedly punched her and dragged her toward a dark area, about 120 meters from where she peed, and raped her.
The girl couldn’t resist as Booc pointed a knife at her. She later told her friend about the attack and the latter asked for help from the police.
RA 7610 punishes any person “who shall commit any other acts of child abuse, cruelty, or exploitation or to be responsible for other conditions prejudicial to the child’s development.” (KAL)
