SIXTY tanods in Barangays Lahug, Ermita and Carreta in Cebu City will not receive their honorarium for December from the City Government because they failed to submit their monthly accomplishments.
Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap) Chief Garry Lao said they were even given an extension.
“Either this is a manifestation that they are not taking this order seriously, or they find its purpose very insignificant to them. Whatever, this is a blatant defiance or an act of insubordination to the mandating authority, thus the need for sanctions against their glaring dereliction of duty,” read a portion of Lao’s letter to Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
The tanods’ allowance will only be restored once they comply and submit the report, he said.
The tanods receive P4,000 each from the City.
In a related development, tanods in Barangay Mambaling might soon receive their honorarium after the mayor canceled it last September.
Lao recommended the restoration of their honorarium after they submitted their reports. However, he said that they can only claim their allowance from October to December.
Osmeña issued a memorandum directing the 80 barangays to submit a weekly report to Cosap on their accomplishments in curbing illegal drugs and other criminality in their areas.
