20 Cebu City villages vie today for a spot in Sunday’s parade

Sunday, January 14, 2018

THE Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) will close today a portion of Osmeña Blvd., from Plaza Independencia to Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC), for the Sinulog sa Barangay (Community Based) 2018 competition.

That stretch will be closed at 10 a.m. until the end of the activity.

CCTO has asked motorists to avoid the area if they have nothing important to do there to avoid getting caught in congestion.

The parade will start in Plaza Independencia, at the corner of Osmeña Blvd. and Legazpi Ext. Participants will then proceed to to Legazpi St., turn left to Plaridel Ext., turn right to Osmeña Blvd., then take the other side of Osmeña Blvd. toward the CCSC gate.

A total of 20 contingents from the city’s 80 barangays will compete in the second year of the community-based Sinulog sa Barangay 2018. Mayor Tomas Osmeña decided last year to let the community-based participants join the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan instead of those contingents from schools to avoid disrupting classes.

Winners will earn a spot in the Sinulog grand parade on Jan. 21.

Today’s contingents include the Tribu Buwad Festival from Barangay San Nicolas Proper, Tribu Timbal Mambalingon, Tribu Cogonanon, tribu Buhisan, Barangay Bulacao, Mabag-ohong Kabatan-onan sa Duljo-Fatima, Hugpong Karasikas, Pundok sa Maampuong Tisaanon, BMO Sawang Calero and Tribu Bacayan.

Contingents from Tribu San Roquehanon, Tribu Mabolokon, Tribu Mahugyawanong Pasil, Tisa Performing Arts, Barangay Lahug Dance Company, Apas Central Command-BMO, Lumad Basakanon, Hugpong Kabatan-onang Mananayaw sa Sapangdaku, Banay Labangon and Banauan Cultural Group will also join the competition.
