Talisay City also got the Best in Musicality and Best in Costume awards
TALISAY City Elementary School was named this year's Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan grand champion after besting six other contingents in the ritual showdown Saturday afternoon, January 13, at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Talisay was also named Best in Musicality and Best in Costume, while the Municipality of Tuburan was named Best in Street Dance.
The Talisay City contingent bagged the P350,000 top prize, same as last year when they won the championship in the elementary division of the said competition.
Saturday's competition was participated by seven contingents coming from different towns and cities in Cebu province.
The seven contingents were the City of Naga Division, City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy, Tribo Ginatilan (Municipality of Ginatilan), Municipality of Tuburan, Carcar City Division and Tribu Hinatdan (Planas, Ginatilan town).

Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, in her opening remarks, said that the event is not just a way for young people to showcase their dance talents but also for them to express their deep devotion to Sr. Sto Niño, who is the center of every Sinulog celebration.
“Dili lang kini sayaw nga mo-entertain kaninyo, usa usab kini nga higayon diin ikapakita sa mga Sugboanong batan-on their deep devotion to Sto. Niño. (This is not just a dance to entertain you, but also a chance to showcase Cebuano youth’s deep devotion to Sto. Niño),” Magpale said.
In his short message, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña thanked Sto Niño, the child Jesus, for the good weather as well as the organizers for the success of the event.
“Congratulations sa atong mga organizers. Good luck sa atong mga aspirants. I know you would all do well, and may Sto. Nino be with us this whole year,” the city mayor said.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, who represented President Rodrigo Duterte, was among the government officials who graced the event.
Meanwhile, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) recorded around 20,000 spectators who witnessed the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan.
Senior Superintendent Angeles Geñorga, CCPO officer-in-charge, said that the event was generally peaceful and organized.
