THE Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas was asked to investigate an official of the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) over allegedly ill-gotten wealth.
Businessman Crisologo Saavedra asked the anti-graft office to investigate Engr. Achilles Ponce, officer-in-charge of the MCCIA engineering department, for alleged dishonesty and grave misconduct.
Ponce, however, described Saavedra’s allegations as a fishing expedition.
“If he (Saavedra) can prove that I own that house and lot, I will resign tomorrow,” he told SunStar Cebu.
Ponce said the house and lot, which Saavedra cited in his complaint, belongs to his girlfriend. Ponce also denied any irregularities in the performance of his job, saying he owns ASAP Engineering Services, which he established in 2004.
He said his business, which he also declared in his statement of assets, liabilities and networth (SALN), could afford him a modest life apart from his monthly salary as a licensed engineer.
Saavedra cited Ponce’s SALN for 2015, where he did not declare that he owns a house and lot in Barangay Camugao, Pinamungajan, Cebu worth millions.
Saavedra accused Ponce of receiving kickback from airport project contractors. Ponce denied the accusations.
“The undersigned is urgently requesting for immediate investigation and cases to be filed in court and to implement a preventive suspension to protect the integrity of the investigation,” Saavedra said. (GMD)
