FORMER Cebu City mayor Michael Rama announced yesterday he’s open to running for vice mayor or congressman in next year’s elections, but that he’ll definitely run for office.
“I already made a statement a long time ago that I’m running in 2019. I can run for congressman or even vice mayor. I am also available to run for mayor,” he said.
Barug Team Rama will field Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella for mayor if Mayor Tomas Osmeña is suspended for any of the cases he is facing, the former mayor said.
Rama also said that even if most of their members are now allied with Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) and he remains with the United Nationalist Alliance, there is no conflict between them.
When sought for comment, Mayor Tomas Osmeña replied: “He can run. I don’t care. This is a free country; the people should have a choice. Why will I stop him from running? That’s why we have elections.”
Earlier, Osmeña also announced he will run for reelection and that his decision is final. A day before that, the mayor had said he considered fielding his wife Councilor Margot Osmeña, who is serving her third straight term. (RVC)
