POLICE Regional Office 7 Director Robert Quenery said there is no threat of any terrorist attack in Cebu, contrary to a photo showing a memorandum issued by the PRO 10 in Cagayan de Oro City informing officers to validate information about Isis bombers with Cebu as one of their targets. “It’s not an official memo, I heard.
Nevertheless, we are is still up on gathering information, monitoring the situation, but as of now, there is no imminent threat in Central Visayas,” said Quenery. Meanwhile, he said he learned that there is an increase of crime against property, which includes robbery and theft, in Mandaue City.
While it is important to look at crime against persons, he encouraged city police to exert more effort in running after culprits of robbery and theft. “I gave them another month to really arrest these people who are doing these,” said Quenery.
In a separate interview, Mayor Luigi Quisumbing said it is imprudent for the City to let its guard down just because there is no (terrorist) threat in Cebu. “However, as far as the City of Mandaue is concerned, we will not stop at that.
We will make sure that we are able to exhaust every effort to make sure that no attack can happen in the City of Mandaue... That’s why we have to continually monitor, continually gather intelligence and continue to prepare communities just in case somebody tries to attack Mandaue City,” he added. (FMG)
