Calderon tops list of filed items in board

CEBU Provincial Board (PB) Majority Floor Leader Peter John Calderon filed the most number of resolutions and ordinances from July to December last year.
According to the record of the Provincial Secretary’s Office, he sponsored a total of 244 resolutions and ordinances, followed by PB Member Thadeo Ouano with 60 and PB Member Joven Mondigo Jr. with 58 items. PB Member Arleigh Sitoy, the lone opposition of the legislative body, was fourth with 56.
Sitoy said he could have been on top had he counted all the resolutions and ordinances he filed. However, he has no problem with Calderon at number one, saying he only has to continue working and not mind the ranking.
He said it is also understandable that Calderon has the most number of resolutions and ordinances because, as majority floor leader, all resolutions and ordinances pass at his level.
Sitoy said he doesn’t want to bring this up during the caucus to avoid being self-serving.
As a process, the PB secretary’s office only counts resolutions and ordinances that were passed at the PB.
Quota
Sitoy said he will continue to set a quota for his staffers to come up with
resolutions and ordinances because he wants them to be busy.
Some of his proposed ordinances that are still within the committee level included requiring producers of chicharon to place health warnings on their packaging.
Gov. Gwen Garcia found the proposal illogical and discriminatory to the industry of Carcar, which is known for this delicacy.
Calderon said Sitoy may have filed a number of ordinances, but these are still pending at the committee level.
“Kung tan-awun sad, ako man pinakadaghan og committee reports based on my committees sa ordinances. I think I have the most approved ordinances also. (If you check, I have the most number of committee reports and ordinances that were passed),” he said in a mobile phone interview.
