Losiaboi, Carter rule 5th CDU Run

KENYAN Simon Losiaboi and Madelyn Carter ruled the 10K division in the 5th Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) Run in Mandaue City.

Losiaboi ran the route in 32:15.60 to beat Arnold Unabia (33:13.09) and Albert Busa (33:55.96). Carter had a narrower margin in the women’s race. She finished in 39:45.28 to beat Jojielyn Pepito (40:32.78) and Aiza Suaybaguio (42:00.98).

In the 5K men’s open, Reprinel Banzon secured the top spot after clocking 15:53.83, while Jolly Rose Maxilom won the women’s division in 20:22.03.

Dr. Raymund Bontol and Dr. Mitty Igaña took the doctors’ division 10K men and women’s category, respectively. Bontol finished in 42:37.84 while Igaña posted a time of 1:01:30.53.

In the 5K division for CDU employees, Charlie Berberio took the title in 18:32.610, while Tessa Gabrillo took the women’s title after posting 26:44.05. Lugz Lim topped the 5K-Alumni men’s in 20:42, while Jane Sia won the women’s division.

On the other hand, third-year Radiology Technology student Neil Patrick Bontigao scored a double yesterday. He won the Best in Costume and also finished first in the 10K Students division in 43:00.

Bontigao was followed by nursing students Dale Bercede (47:42) and Raffy Nulata (48:05). In the women’s division, nursing students Anette Cabagnot (49:25), Joanne Camposano (49:47) and Marielle Grafe (51:08) took the top three spots.

Others who were awarded yesterday were two-year-old Althea Banzon (youngest runner), Raul Cepeda (oldest), Chuck Collin (most attractive) and Marley Colmenares (sexiest).

Race organizer Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III said he was overwhelmed by the turnout in the run, which had 3,500 runners.

“Our newest addition in this event is the inter-club dancing contest, which was a huge success.

And it’s nice seeing not only the elite runners but the fun runners staying behind to cheer for their team. And that is the main purpose of this event, to strengthen camaraderie among runners,” Larrazabal said.

The team Ungo sa Dagan won the first prize while the Run Belly group took the second prize.

Larrazabal added he is planning to include the inter-club dancing contest and more raffle prizes in his running events because this is his way of repaying the runners for joining his events.
