Man kills lover, then shoots self

A MAN suffering from an illness affecting his gall bladder is believed to have shot his girlfriend and then killed himself yesterday morning.

Fidel Pepito, 26, was found half a kilometer from his pregnant girlfriend Sheila Devera, 29.

Still dressed in her work uniform, Devera was discovered dead at 6 a.m. yesterday in Sitio Looc, Barangay Tayud, Consolacion by residents passing by. She was shot in the abdomen.

While police and residents were milling around her body, a security guard of a private property found the body of Pepito around 8 a.m. in Barangay Calero, Liloan, near the cemetery.

Tayud is in the boundary of Consolacion and Liloan towns.

Based on the position he was in, it appeared Pepito shot himself in the head.

A .45 pistol with three live bullets was found near his hand.

Devera’s brother Ritchell said she was two months pregnant. She reportedly left work at the factory in Danao City at 4 a.m.

The couple has a one-year-old daughter. Pepito’s sister Annabel Cabahug told radio dySS that while Devera and Pepito did not break up, Pepito slept in her house because of his illness.

Since April, they have been saving money so he could have an operation to cure the pain in his gall bladder.

Every payday, Pepito would reportedly ask Devera for money to pay for medicines and to save for surgery.

Wilfredo, Devera’s father, said it was possible she couldn’t give him any money because of the needs of their daughter.

Cabahug and the Deveras did not know if the couple had an argument, saying they were in good terms. Pepito even borrowed Cabahug’s motorcycle to pick Devera up from work.

Cabahug was also surprised to learn that her brother had a gun with him.

Residents initially thought Devera was robbed.

But when her family claimed that she was picked up by Pepito, police who responded to the area scurried about to find him.

Ritchell, interviewed over radio dyHP, said his sister did not usually pass the area where her body was found, and that a neighbor told them he was surprised to see her pass that way.

At first, they also did not know Pepito’s real name, saying they only knew him as “Iti.”

About an hour later, a motorcycle was found stashed near the cemetery in Barangay Calero. It was identified as the motorcycle that Pepito used.

At 8 a.m., a security guard then reported the discovery of a dead man near the Apollo Homes.

Devera’s family said there was no third party involved, and is convinced that it was Pepito who shot her.

Cabahug said that before Pepito got sick, he and Devera rented a house, while Pepito worked in Barangay Curva, Liloan.

When he got sick, he stopped working because of the pain. He also decided to sleep in his sister’s house, while Devera and their daughter moved in with her parents.

Despite this arrangement, the two did not consider their relationship over.
