MMIS tops Vissa

MARIA Montessori International School (MMIS)dominated the elementary division of the 12th Visayas Integrated Schools Swimming Association Inter-school swimming competition and novice challenge 2010 Part II last weekend in Panglao.

MMIS posted 640 points to win, while the University of Bohol came in second with 594 points. Surigao City Division swim team got 248 points to settle for third place.

MMIS was led by Chloe Alvarez, who was named the most outstanding swimmer in the 6-Under age group, where she was uncontested.

Meanwhile, the University of San Carlos (USC) topped the secondary division after scoring 429 points. Talisay City Division Swim Team and MMIS came in at second and third places.

Palompon Institute of Technology hampered a Cebu sweep after winning the tertiary division with 173 points. Cristale College placed second with 143 points, while USC settled for third with 64 points.

The other Cebuanos who were named outstanding swimmers in their division were Christante Veloso of Paref-Springdale in the Boys 9-10 division, Cynthjune Goden of USC in the 13-14 boys division, and University of San Jose- Recoletos’s Lorens Goyonechea and John Beltran in the 15-17 division.

The event was participated by 214 swimmers from 27 teams from Cebu, Bohol, Surigao and Leyte.

Meanwhile, Vissa also took pride in the performances of its newest members—Gianna and Gabby Alindogan of Sotero B. Cabahug Forum for Literacy and Marc Garapan of Marie Ernestine School.

The three, who plunged into their first competition, managed to win silver and bronze medals in the seven events they joined.

“I hope their performances will inspire our new swimmers to strive hard as well,” said Vissa official Jess Ariola.

Blue Marlins

More than 30 Cebuanos from the Cebu Blue Marlins Club will compete in the G-League Short Course swimming championship tomorrow at the Carlos P. Garcia swimming pool in Bohol.

Making up the bulk of the Cebu Blue Marlins Club are athletes from the University of Cebu with swimmers from FBC Christian School, Labangon Elementary School, Sacred Heart School Jesuit-Ateneo de Cebu, USC Basic Education and Cebu Eastern College.

The team will be up against swimmers from Bohol, Negros Oriental and Occidental, Silliman University, Ilo-Ilo City, Binirayan Antique and Capiz.
