A CEBU-BASED online job site reported a 40 percent increase in the number of jobs posted in October compared to the same month last year.
Mynimo (www.mynimo.com) president and chief executive officer Wesley Chiongbian attributed this to companies that are rehiring retrenched workers and to new firms starting or expanding their operations in the province.

Most of these new companies engage in business process outsourcing.
Chiongbian said this shows Cebu as a good location to do business.
“We are surprised (by the high increase in the number of jobs posted) since we set conservative targets due to the global financial crisis that affected some sectors. But the companies are gearing up, preparing for the rebound in the economy,” he told reporters Wednesday.
Without giving figures, Chiongbian considered last month as the highest in number of jobs posted this year, surpassing the digits posted in January, a peak season for the job site.
Anticipating that manufacturing companies in Cebu are preparing for the economy’s recovery next year, Mynimo.com’s projected further growth in the number of jobs posted in the last two months of this year.
Last August, the Department of Labor and Employment received reports of companies that were hurt by the crisis last year and had to retrench but are now recalling their former employees.
As of yesterday, there were 345 local jobs and 217 overseas jobs posted in Mynimo.com.
The top five industries with the highest number of jobs in Cebu are managerial or supervisory; sales, marketing, and retail; accounting and finance; customer service or support; and information technology.
The job site also posted 14,935 resumes.
Most of them, Chiongbian said, are current job holders looking for work related to their degrees.
