Oh sweet crepe

“I GUESS we’re not for the ‘eat-and-run crowd. We’re more known as a hangout where people just like to chill,” explains Hendri Go about their restaurant East,West located at The Walk in I.T Park.

Come this September, the business will be celebrating their 10th anniversary, marking their establishment as a reliable food spot for Cebuanos craving for a good bite.

They’re open from eleven in the morning ‘til past midnight.

As the name suggests, the menu tries to delve into a cross-cultural cuisine while their kitchen attempts to retain still our local ingredients. “Over the years, we’ve really tried to be inventive with our food,” shares Hendri.

Check out the crabstick salad. It’s a good opener for a meal.

The flavors coming off the mango slices do not distract the diner from enjoying a cool, salad dish. It’s heavy, yet also subtle in taste. Friends can share in on one serving.

Going further into the offerings, the garlic cream and sausage pasta is indeed as tasty as the name sounds.

The black mushrooms in the pasta offer the creamy Italian dish with a twist-one that proves to be headed in the right direction.

But really, let’s cut the chat and get down to what East,West is best known for: their mango sushi crepe.

This dessert is not only affordably priced, but is also simply, a joy to eat. With the flavors and ingredients not too daring yet still familiar to one’s palate, this plateful of sweets is an easy bestseller.

Unlike other crepes when its flavors mostly rely on the syrups and creams, this particular one has a sweet flavor already infused in the crepe itself.

A huge scoop of vanilla ice cream placed in the middle of the plate completes the dish.

Two to three persons can probably share one order.

So yeah, few are the restaurants around town where desserts rule the menu. But perhaps this “chill” concept gives East,West its edge among their competitors in the food scene.

“We’re built by our regulars,” says the manager Anne Miñoza. This hangout prides itself in being one of the few restaurants in the middle of the metro that’s “under the radar,” but is still able to capture a huge and secure following.

“We’re not big. We’re not huge,” admits Hendri.

That’s OK. At least their tasty crepe is.
