I’m just a critic

-A A +A

I’M afraid the voters of Cebu City and Cebu Province will vote for me in next year’s elections even though I’m not running for any elective position. Apparently, Cebu City South District Rep. Tomas Osmeña and the camp of Gov. Gwen Garcia have been attacking me. I was informed that some of the Capitol’s paid program handlers have been doing this in their radio programs in different radio stations. But not all of them since some of them are my former colleagues and they value our friendship.

Was there a marching order from the governor to attack me in “retaliation” for my negative comments against her? Or is this the handiwork of a Capitol consultant who is very “sipsip” to the governor and who is perceived to be the “captain ball” of the Capitol’s blocktimers? If there was a marching order from the governor to get back at me, I think she miscalculated. I am not her political opponent. I am only her critic.

If you listen to my program and read my columns here, it’s not all negative comments against the governor. I have never closed my eyes at her good deeds. But of all the legitimate commentators who have raised issues against Gwen, why am I being singled out? Am I that effective?

The issues I have raised against her are all legitimate like the Balili property and her indiscriminate spending of the taxpayers’ money, especially on her media promotional gimmick and her public actuation. I am not “attacking” Gwen on a personal level. If I’ll do that… well, I don’t know. I know a little bit of her past. Daghang baho gyud ang manggawas. Pero walay labot ang lungsod anang iyang kagahapon. But what are her commentators doing? They are raising personal issues against me as if I am the opponent of the governor this coming elections.

I don’t want to pick a fight against these radio blocktimers. Not because I am a coward. Listeners already know who pays for their radio airtime. They’re just being loyal to their sponsor. I’ll be wasting my airtime if I answer them. Daghan pang commercials nang akong programa. And if I do that I will attack the dog owner not the dog. I can even understand the Capitol’s hired commentators. They make their living as the “barkers of politicians.” I’m different. This is my profession. I don’t want to go down to their level. Being in radio and in the newspaper is a privilege and I don’t want to waste that privilege on nonsense.

My only advice to these Capitol program handlers is to focus their discussions on the achievements of the governor. They are being paid to drum up her image. Then, by all means, they should use and maximize their airtime doing this. Do not divert issues by attacking other people who are not even politicians. And if there are legitimate issues raised against the governor, they should answer these in their respective programs. Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale and the Provincial Board can question this practice if the Capitol is the one paying for these programs because some of its members are also being attacked. In fact, those being attacked should be included in the propaganda since they are part of the Provincial Government. Kapitolyo may nagbayad unya apilon pud og ataki ang ubang opisyal sa Kapitolyo kay kaatbang na sa gobernador.

Congressman Osmeña, on the other hand, keeps on lambasting me during his nightly “pulong-pulong.” Tomas tells his audience not to believe what I say about him in my radio program. Naunsa man tawon ni si Tomas? Ang buot niyang ipasabot nga dili niya patuohon ang mga tawo sa akong gipangsulti sa radio kabahin niya. Take note ha, “kabahin” ug dili “batok niya.” So kung misulti ko nga mitanyag siya’g P400 million ngadto ni First District Rep. Eduardo Gullas, dili niya patuohon ang katawhan. Yabag.

Kuyaw lagi ni’g akoy modaog sa sunod tuig nga eleksyon bisan dili ko molansar.
