Cloudy, with chances of tomatoes-A A +A
Friday, January 18, 2013
WEATHER forecasters said there will be varying amounts of clouds and bright sunny spells during the Sinulog grand parade on Sunday, with chances of rain.
Some pundits are wary on the crowd’s reaction if suspended Gov. Gwen Garcia dances during the Sinulog, among them, expected boos.
The istambays are afraid the forecast would be: “cloudy, with chances of tomatoes.”
There were no reports of a contingent being booed by the crowd in the past Sinulog grand parades. That would have been highly un-Cebuano.
No one is also expected to watch the Sinulog bringing tomatoes, which is the subject of intense debate by experts who differ on their opinion whether it is a fruit or a vegetable.
Gov. Gwen Garcia should be safe is she decides to dance in the Sinulog on Sunday.
But Byron Garcia, the governor’s brother who is known as the architect of Cebu’s dancing inmates, frowns on Gov. Gwen dancing the Sinulog at the Cebu City Sports Center.
He is against it and advised the governor “to make a gesture of devotion” instead at the Capitol grounds.
Perhaps, the greater risk is for the governor to be locked out of her office at the Capitol despite Acting Gov. Agnes Magpale’s promise no to do so.
President Noynoy Aquino is skipping the Sinulog grand parade on Sunday. Reason: he wasn’t invited.
Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama and Sinulog top honcho Ricky Ballesteros both said they are sure PNoy was invited to the Sinulog.
PNoy’s invitation, Mayor Mike said, also didn’t get through the President last year but PNoy came.
Well, he’s just skipping the Sinulog this year.
Police have projected the number of Sinulog revelers on Sunday to reach four million, up from 3.5 million last year.
Nobody is actually counting, but the number of revelers simply increases every year.
That makes one wonder if there’s somebody left at home to cook for the Fiesta Senyor kumbira.
