7 things many of us hated in 2013-A A +A
Sunday, December 29, 2013
THE hate varied in degrees: from pure loathing to weary disapproval.
Not in any specific order, the objects of our hate:
EXCESSIVE GREED of those who defrauded the government--masterminds like Janet Napoles and lawmakers and government bureaucrats who conspired in the Congress and DBM looting. And the hubris or arrogance from the delusion they owned the government.
MONSTER DISASTERS --mega earthquake and super typhoon, with nature’s increasing ferocity and people’s waning capability to cope with it.
MAN-INDUCED ‘ACTS OF GOD’: city fires, wayward buses that crashed and ships that collided.
Mostly caused by drunkenness, defective machines, inept steering and reckless acts.
P-NOY’S WHINING against ex-president Gloria Arroyo. While GMA can be blamed for many woes, the buck had long stopped at P-Noy’s desk. Credited for successes, he must own up the failures too.
CITY HALL GRIDLOCK, with Team Rama and BOPK in battle: Rama griping about his rivals’ “obstructions” and hostile councilors rapping the mayor’s “failure” to meet their requirements. Not helping are poor communication skills, muddling of issues, with no moderator but with a “kingpin” who can’t bear the city being run except by himself and his lackeys.
‘LACKLUSTER’ CAPITOL. No huge mistakes but no major project to catch public interest. Or maybe people were just used to the hype and trail-blazing of the former governor.
SEEMING HOPELESSNESS of it all, with so much to be corrected or improved and so little being done.
