Cristina and JPE’s womanizing

-A A +A

IT'S distressing enough that Cristina Castañer Enrile has tolerated her husband Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile's philandering. Worse, she adopted the womanizers' dictum.

In an interview with Solita Monsod of GMA 7 TV News, Cristina said:

-- She blamed JPE's women, 38 of them in her list, for throwing themselves at her husband who, she said, never sought them out;
-- She accepted JPE's string of mistresses, provided he didn't keep each for a long time, and the wayward husband's mantra that not leaving the wife condoned outside liaisons.

Those are chauvinistic thoughts one would hear from a man: "wa ko mamabaye, akoy gilake" (I didn't seduce her, she seduced me); "mouli bitaw gihapon sa asawa" (I always go home to the wife). A woman usually doesn't espouse that line, unless Cristina used the male defenses to assuage four decades of pain.

Maybe she also took comfort from JPE's public admission in 1998 that he looked good from the waist up but was no longer doing well from the waist down.

If Cristina thought he was harmless, she didn't know that love-making has no borders, which Bill Clinton tried to obscure in his convoluted definition of the sex act in the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Not thievery

The apparent martyrdom is explained by Cristina's continuing "affection" for JPE who lives in a separate house in the family compound but still dines with her.

Cristina won't be much of a character witness for JPE in the pork barrel scandal. She displays clear bias when she said the man she loves allowed lecherous sorties but not theft of public funds.
