Dionesia and her side-show-A A +A

“Deep in the underground carpark of Mandalay Bay, Mommie D. is conducting a human sacrifice to thank the gods for Manny’s victory.”
--A tweet on Mrs. Pacquiao’s antic
DIONESIA Paquiao, mother of boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, has been into attention-getting acts in much of her son's life as an idol, making herself a celebrity of sorts too.
In public she does ballroom dancing, gyrates to hip tunes like Beyonce's "Drunk in Love," sings "Wrecking Ball" ala Miley Cryus, or does interviews about fashion, home and lifestyle.
At her age (forgettable) and talent (un-remarkable), she looks and sounds amusing, at times ludicrous. But for mothering a Filipino legend, she has been watched by the press with tolerance and humor.
What she did at ringside last Sunday during the Pacquiao-Bradley fight in Las Vegas was interesting TV even to a world audience.
One viewer tweeted that if networks had to split screen, they'd rather have Mommie D. on the main frame.
News heads said Dionesia is "star of the night"; "grabs spotlight" or "steals show"; Bradley "loses via voodoo."
Mix of rituals
Some writers thought she was doing a hex as she kept chanting unintelligible words and pointing her middle finger at Bradley.
But she was holding a rosary and a prayer card at the same time. Maybe a mix of pagan and church ritual that witches of Siquijor, not her son's gaggle of bible-toting pastors, might accept credit for.
Yet she shed all the anti-Bradley stance after the fight, climbing up the ring to hug the enemy who wanted to terminate her son's career but failed.
