If Gigi Reyes squeals on Enrile-A A +A

“Oh Gigi/ have I been standing up/ too close or back too far?/ When did your sparkle/ turn to fire?.”
--From the Lowe-Lerner film song, Best Original Song in 1958 Oscars
RUMORS are rife about Lucila Jessica Reyes, known to the nation as Gigi Reyes, former chief of staff of Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile (JPE) and co-accused with Janet Napoles and legislators linked to the multibillion-peso pork barrel fraud.
Self-confessed bagwoman Ruby Tuason earlier told the Senate that she gave Gigi millions of pesos in kickbacks for her ex-boss and alleged lover.
The talks include speculations that Gigi returned Saturday from San Francisco to (a) save herself by turning state witness, (b) slug it out in the legal battle, or (c) take options other than being a fugitive.
Whatever she'll do, the bets are on her choosing freedom over a life behind bars, before and after trial of the non-bailable plunder charge. And that must include providing evidence against JPE.
Gigi won't do that, says co-respondent Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, saying she's a "good person" and it's not "in her character... to pin people down."
Jinggoy's idea about goodness clashes with Sen. Miriam Santiago's theory, which equates being a stoolie with patriotism. Like his defense of "why only us," Jinggoy's logic assumes Gigi was a partner in crime but won't betray JPE.
Jinggoy also forgot that Gigi earlier slammed Enrile for distancing himself from her, suggesting she felt betrayed after serving her boss for 25 years.
If the sparkle in Gigi turns into fire, no one, not even JPE, must be surprised.
