Monica’s consent to the abuse-A A +A
Thursday, May 8, 2014
“Sure, my boss took advantage of me but I will always remain firm on this point: it was a consensual relationship. Any ‘abuse’ came in the aftermath, when I was made a scapegoat in order to protect his powerful position.”
--Monica Lewinsky, writing in “Vanity Fair”
MONICA Lewinsky alleged that between November 1995 and March 1997 she had nine sexual encounters with then president Bill Clinton in the Oval Office, which included oral sex but no sexual intercourse. She was 22; he was 49.
Almost 20 years later, Monica, 41 this July, says the same thing that she said when the scandal erupted in 1998: Bill, 68 in August, took advantage of her but sex was consensual.
The abuse, she said, came in the damage control and cover-up: she was called a "narcissistic nutty loon" by Bill's wife Hillary and a "nutty and slutty intern" by "New York Times" columnist Maureen Dowd.
A massive p.r. operation depicted Monica as harasser, crazed bimbo, stalker. Bill who was reputedly unable to keep his pants zipped before a hot woman was pictured, absurdly, as the "teenager protecting his virginity."
Since then, critics may have revised opinion about Monica but what must still astound is that until now she thinks her public drubbing after the expose led to Bill's humiliating impeachment was worse than bending her knees to tend to a president's testosterone rage.
She consented to the depravity but at her age, then awestruck by presidential persona, the consent was severely flawed.
Which didn't lessen and instead heightened the enormity of what Clinton inflicted.
