Conspiracy theory and Ping’s list

-A A +A

“In a world full of manipulation, half-truths and lies, the conspiracy theory is often a safer bet than the official story.”
--Gary Hopkins

EVEN before former senator Panfilo Lacson submitted the list that he said Janet Napoles's husband gave, there was talk of a conspiracy to muddle the charges against Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile (JPE) and two other senators in the pork barrel scandal.

Sen. Miriam Santiago calls Ping the senator's "attack dog" that's being used to confuse the issue.

Lacson warned the Senate might collapse because of the huge fraud. Yet he peddled a raw, unverified document that could help bring that about.

Unsigned and not-sworn-to, the list contained no specifics as to amount, grantee, NGO or agency, and purpose. Just names, like a laundry list with generic description of articles.

It also didn't jibe with previous lists from Commission on Audit, ombudsman, Department of Justice, or whistleblowers, which were detailed as to how much and where the money went.

On Cebu lawmakers, for example, of the three listed, only one was mentioned before, an ex-congresswoman. Of the remaining two who were not in any past list, one is a rookie solon who wasn't a politician yet when the scam was pulled.

Paranoia

Such mistakes could be intentional, to cast doubt on the original and genuine list.

But then we can't really judge that, can we, until the Napoles-to-DOJ version is released. For now we can only cite discrepancies.

In this behemoth scandal that could topple political careers, a conspiracy theory can't just be quickly dismissed as paranoia.
