Gagged 2-A A +A
Saturday, May 24, 2014
THE mystery deepens. The hospital now completely denies any act of gagging done by their staff.
I refer of course to the case of the newborn baby whose mouth was gagged with surgical tape in a hospital nursery.
Two weeks after the incident, the hospital makes an official statement claiming that none of their staff gagged the baby. The hospital doesn’t say so but in not so many words, they imply that the parents actually gagged their own baby.
But to what end? To extort money from them? Well, it’s not an impossible scenario but it’s certainly far-fetched.
I don’t personally know any of the personalities involved in this case but the parents, from the outset, have conducted themselves in a very reasonable manner. The hospital, on the other hand, has been acting in a very suspicious manner. While repeatedly saying that it would cooperate in any investigation, the hospital incredibly could not come up with the results of their own internal investigation until after two weeks of the said incident.
How long does it take the hospital to investigate three nurses that were identified to be on duty at the time of incident? Unless one of these nurses became comatose or was posted to Afghanistan, there was no reason why the hospital could not come up with any answers a day or two after news broke out.
Why was there such great difficulty in ferreting out the truth? Was it because the truth was unpalatable? Were they still concocting a spin story?
If this was an isolated act of one misguided nurse, I am sure the hospital would have no compunction in firing her. But if it was standard operating procedure, then that nurse would fight tooth and nail to keep her job, license as well as reputation. And she would take the hospital down with her. This leads me to believe that the latter is the likely truth.
As the hospital naturally does not want to be liable for any misguided policies it may have put in place, their strategy now seems to revolve around complete denial and character assassination of the accusers.
Examine the actions of the hospital. They have now countered with accusations against the parents of the baby. The hospital alleges that the father entered the nursery when he was not supposed to, he brought in a backpack which is a prohibited item and the parents took pictures of the babies without permission.
To what end would the hospital be issuing these irrelevant statements except to cast doubt on the parents’ integrity?
And has it never occurred to the hospital that their own allegations of the parents committing prohibited acts inside their premises also cast doubt on the integrity of their own staff as well as facilities? Is the hospital nursery so unsecure, their staff so inefficient that anyone can just walk into the nursery, bring prohibited items, take pictures and even have the time to tape the mouth of a baby?
I am not privy to the truth but the hospital’s attempts to deflect attention from their possibly anomalous act of gagging babies by attacking the aggrieved parents’ integrity is making the hospital look weak, desperate and irresponsible.
