Fuss over alleged sex videos

-A A +A

JUSTICE Secretary Leila de Lima did the right thing in choosing to ignore Sandra Cam’s claims against her, including the existence of an alleged sex video of the Cabinet member.

Why is Cam so fixated with de Lima? She herself provides a clue. She said that when she sent a text message to de Lima to inform her that former Palawan Gov. Joel Reyes and his brother Mario had fled the country, the latter not only ignored her message, she dismissed it as rubbish.

De Lima clarified that what she called rubbish was not Cam’s report about the escape but her claim that she (de Lima) had a hand in it. The clarification came quite belatedly for Cam, who apparently has been nursing her hurts over the perceived snub, and is now threatening to make public the alleged sex videos.

What’s the big fuss about a Cabinet member having sex? She’s a woman and from what I heard, her marriage is already annulled. Unless Cam claims to be a virgin until now, she must have had sex herself at one time or another. Does that make her any less moral than the others?

Other women would have cringed at the notion of another woman being recorded while enjoying one of life’s natural pleasures. But not Cam who has gone to town proclaiming she had several copies of the tapes and threatening to make them public if de Lima’s appointment were confirmed by the Commission on Appointments. Now tell me, between Cam and de Lima, who is the better woman?

Cam should be ashamed of what she’s doing. Even if she is not bluffing and there is indeed a sex video, what is its relevance to the fitness of de Lima to sit as justice secretary? She has been in that office since 2010 and her record speaks volumes of her competence.

It is sad that the Commission on Appointments had not confirmed her appointment sooner but it is not too late for them to make amends. They should do it now.

In case you have been wondering where Cebu Maternity lawyer Cornelio “Sonny” Mercado went after his vigorous defense of the hospital in the baby lips-taping cases, here’s the answer: Sonny went to the Perpetual Succor Hospital where he underwent a heart procedure known as angioplasty to unclog his arteries.

Sonny is back with a reinvigorated heart and, taking from where he left off, fired off the following letter in defense of his client:

“The photos that Jasmine Badocdoc (the mother) took and recorded using an Android cellphone on 09 May and posted a few minutes later at Ryan Noval’s Facebook (a.k.a. Rye Kido), captioned as Nightmare@Maternity, show baby Badocdoc’s upper and lower lips taped or(gagged). Indeed, such actions are insane, Maternity, the nurses, and the midwife have since then become the object of hate.

“When Atty. Heide Orbiso appeared before the investigating panel on 27 May to announce the filing of the suit, she said the parents merely wanted an apology from Maternity.

The intent may have been missed because what was asked was “Will you settle?”

“In observance of due process, the personnel were asked to submit their written explanation and then jointly investigated. No pacifier was prescribed because baby Badocdoc was being breastfed. The nurses and the midwife firmly asserted that there was no pacifier on the crib, or tape on baby Badocdoc. The objects were brought to the nurse’s attention after Jasmine Badocdoc entered the nursery. She breastfed her child at 7:50 p.m., and at 8:10 p.m. of May 9, the photos of baby Badocdoc were already posted on Rye Kido’s Facebook” [more on Wednesday].
