Cayetanos, Binays in dirty war

-A A +A

THE Blue Ribbon committee session last week highlighted the mud-throwing between the Binays and the Cayetanos, which has been going on spiritedly for sometime now.

Parochial feud among the politicians has spilled over: from Makati and Taguig cities, the verbal brawl has gone on national stage, where presidential ambition on each side gets larger exposure.

The Senate hearing expectedly was dominated by Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano with Makati Mayor Junjun Binay as Senate "guest" getting the potshots.

In the Senate hall and other forums, the two battling political families have been trading accusations.

The kettle calls the pot black although here the public isn't sure which is kettle and which is pot.

Color of skin among the protagonists may not be of help despite marked contrast of complexions.

Stereotyping may place the Binays at a disadvantage: to many Pinoys, villains are mostly the the dark type while heroes are the fair-skinned "mestizos." Yet VP Jojo Binay is miles ahead of Alan Peter in the ratings race for the presidency.

On volume of graft, the Cayetanos may also enjoy the edge: what are being blamed on them involve only millions of pesos (overpriced multicabs) compared to billions of pesos against the Binays (overpriced multi-story building).

'Not a shred'

But political motive in the swapping of charges cancels each other. So, which to believe, whom to trust in picking your next president?

Given PNoy's yardstick ("not a shred of doubt" about choosing the straight path), neither VP Jojo nor Alan Peter might qualify.
