THE Philippine Collegiate Champions League Cebu Zonals wrapped up last Sunday with the University of Cebu becoming Cebu’s third team to make it to the Sweet 16 round of the PCCL national finals on Nov. 23 in Manila and Adamson University accusing officials of rigging the results.
The tournament did not finish without hitches as Adamson head coach Leo Austria promised to file a protest against San Sebastian College, their final opponent in the tournament.

Austria said the referees were biased toward the SSC because most players were Bisaya.
“There’s a conspiracy. The referees knew how much SSC needed for the quotient and they are helping them get that,” said Adamson head coach Leo Austria, whose star player, Julius Colina, is from Mandaue.
Austria said he will be filing a protest after they lost to the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Baycats, 88-78, Sunday night, that forced them out of the next round of the PCCL.
However, Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy took offense and told Austria off.
“There were some lapses from the referees. But these were very minor. This was not enough for him to accuse our referees with conspiracy. I told him that maybe he should look at his players instead. There were four of them not performing the way they played in their past games,” said Tiukinhoy.
After Adamson’s loss, it figured in a three-way logjam with UC and San Sebastian College with identical 2-1 records forcing officials to refer to the scorebooks and use the Fiba quotient system, to determine the top two teams that will advance.
The SSC Baycats came up with the superior quotient with a 1.06.
The Webmasters salvaged the second spot with 1.013, while Adamson fell short with 0.956.
Tiukinhoy said whatever the outcome of the said protest, UC is already assured of a slot joining early qualifiers University of the Visayas and the University of San Carlos.
