AT 37 years old and after a long layoff from the ring, Gerry Peñalosa is back working hard to get in shape as he tries to defy the odds and gun for another world title.

Peñalosa last fought on April 25, 2009 and was stopped in 10 rounds by the undefeated Juan Manuel Lopez of Puerto Rico.

And this time, Peñalosa will be facing another Puerto Rican, Eric Morel, for the interim World Boxing Organization bantamweight crown this Sunday in “Pinoy Power 3” event at the Las Vegas Hilton.

“Pinarusahan ko sarili ko dito sa gym, nagsakripisyo, para sa laban,” said the two-division world champion in a report posted at the ABS-CBN website.

Peñalosa is wrapping up his training at the Wild Card Gym in California under coach Freddie Roach.

The winner of the Peñalosa-Morel bout will face the winner of the WBO bantamweight battle between Fernando Montiel and Ciso Morales, which is also included in the “Pinoy Power 3” card.
