MANILA - Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Harry Angping praised Fr. Vic Uy for a well-successful stint as commissioner of the government agency.
Angping said commissioner and executive-director, who served the PSC for two years, has done great things for the improvement of the system in the sports agency.
“He has done a great job for the agency and for sports in the country,” said Angping.

The 61-year-old Uy, who was ordained priest in 1974, is now torn between love of sports and service to God. He has been recalled by his superior in the SVD religious order to resume his work as vice-president for Finance of the Holy Name University in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
He said that SVD Provincial Superior Fr. Heinz Kulueke of Germany assigned him to his new post starting next school year.
Uy explained that the recall order by the German-based Society of the Divine Word (SVD) is part of his religious duties as a priest.
“Our term as commissioner under the current administration of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will incidentally end in June. So, after that I will resume my work with the
university,” said Uy.
For his part, Angping, who was appointed by Pres. Arroyo in January 2009, said that he can’t comment regarding the recall of Fr. Uy.
“We will cross the bridge only when we get there,” said Angping.
The Bohol-native Uy said that a problem will only come up if the next president cannot appoint new members of the board of commissioners once he assumes office.
“I don’t know what to do if in case no replacements will be done in June because my assignment with the Holy Name University starts immediately in the coming school year,” said Uy, who was the vice-president for finance at the University of San Carlos in Cebu City before his appointment with the PSC.
“We have a vow of obedience. That is why are obliged to obey our superiors,” he said.
Uy started as special assistant to former chairman William “Butch” Ramirez in 2007 before being appointed executive-director and later commissioner by President Arroyo in 2008.
“When I was appointed commissioner of the PSC, I was only given one-year permission by my SVD superior but chairman Ramirez (William) later asked them for an extension, which was granted,” said Uy.
