IF HE will have his way, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) executive director and commissioner Fr. Vic Uy want to have another Cebuano replace him in the PSC.
But there are no takers for his post.
Fr. Uy, who is set to leave the PSC this June, wants Cebu City Sports Center manager Ricky Ballesteros to replace him. However, Ballesteros and another potential replacement are not to uproot themselves from Cebu as they are more content in helping local athletes.

“It would be great if we had another Cebuano at the PSC so that we would continue to have a representative in the PSC,” said Fr. Uy, who added that he is ready for his term’s end so he can go to the Society of the Divine Word.
Fr. Uy is set to work as the vice president for finance at the Holy Name University of Tagbilaran.
“If I had to pick someone to replace me in my post, I would choose Ricky Ballesteros. He would be a very good candidate,” said Fr. Uy. “He has an impeccable track record as far as sports organizing is concerned and he has proven to be a very effective leader having organized very successful events and for the good management of the CCSC.”
Fr. Uy added that his position would entail someone to do management, planning and policy-making, which he feels Ballesteros perfectly fits in.
Ballesteros has managed the CCSC for a long time and has organized nationally-acclaimed events such as the Milo Little Olympics and Milo Marathon.
However, Ballesteros said his heart is on Cebu, not the PSC.
“I am flattered that they considered me for the position but it will be the wrong time to leave Cebu because the sports atmosphere here is on the rise and I want to be part of that,” said Ballesteros, who added he considers helping local sports talents as his advocacy.
“I am more inclined in helping our local talents. Manila will be too huge a scope for me. I think I would have a hard time doing what Fr. Vic has done for this country’s sporting community. I’m content in organizing sporting event for our local athletes,” said Ballesteros. “I can do better as an organizer.”
Former Cebu City councilor, Joy Young, whose name is also being floated as a replacement, said he is certain Ballesteros will not accept the task because “he is over-qualified.”
Aside from the events he is organizing, Ballesteros said he also cannot easily pull himself out of Cebu because he cannot leave behind the CCSC and the SInulog Foundation, where he is the executive director.
Ballesteros said he may have to recommend PSC local point person, Dr. Danilo Villadolid, who is considered Cebu’s godfather of athletics.
However, Villadolid, who is also connected with the Department of Education, also prefers to concentrate on Cebu.
