Department of Tourism (DOT) 13 Director Leticia Tan said the region offers tourists a combination of culture, adventure and natural attractions.

She said the first exhibit of Caraga is being held in Cebu because it is recognized as tourism hub in the country.

Caraga covers the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands.

Butuan considered the center of the Caraga Region, was proclaimed “the Prehistoric Destination of the Philippines” since it is known for its colorful history, culture, arts and people. The event also highlighted Surigao, the surfing capital of the Philippines and the City of Island Adventures.

It also promoted Lake Mainit of Agusan del Norte, Britaña Group of Islets in San Agustin (Surigao del Sur), the Naked Island of Siargao Island, Agusan Marsh—which is the country’s largest marshland found in Agusan del Sur—and Tinuy-an Falls or the Niagara Falls of the Philippines in Bislig City. Other adventure tourism activities in the region include mountain biking in Agusan del Sur and caving in Agusan del Norte.

In addition to these nature destinations, there are also white sand beaches and resorts in Dinagat Island, Surigao City and Siargao Island.

The exhibit also features the services of Caraga Travel Links and the Caraga Travel Agents and Operators.

Daniel Calo, provincial tourism director, said the exhibit is aimed to attract more tourists to Caraga. (UP Mass Comm Intern Katrina G. Coloso)
