Saving grace

THERE are several trends that have already bid their domination in the coming months and then understandably, they would soon hit straight to every woman’s closet.

We have seen them revived in various metamorphoses, but this time around designers have kept them easy.

Mornings are tough. This new set of versions in fashion could certainly save young women from staring blankly in front of the mirror, undecided of what wardrobe to put on that would carry them from office meetings through after-six soirees.

At the Maze in Ayala Center Cebu, “hitting two birds with one stone” could probably be the quickest thought than ran across your mind. The release of these new easy pieces featured here are from an event that hit the city on Friday, Jan. 15—the day Maze opened its “face-lifted” ground to the public.

“Maze is the one-stop, hip-shop that has been in business at the Ayala Center Cebu for the past five years. Some of their tenants have ‘graduated’ from mere small stalls and grown into bigger retails outlets,” says events coordinator Monch Ceballos, who collaborated with make-up artist Romero Vergara, stylist Lory Mer Villareal, and the models from AD Models Homme et Femme and Ozar Models Management.

From the fashion show, we picked five favorite trends to address some “closet concerns.” Wearability has always been a great factor. However, we at Live! couldn’t let loose on the fantasy that comes as a bonus.

Here they are:

DRAPERY. Modern women may have acknowledged Georgina Chapman for her seamless draping, but it was the French Madeleine Vionnet, who started draping the neckline, thus, the “cowl.” Then later on, she developed the bias silhouette.

Thank Vionnet for concealing unsightly bulges with draping that is now one of the key details in modern fashion.

SHIRT DRESS. The end-tail of last year’s hype of the “boyfriend jacket.” It could also be converted as a tunic, worn over a pair of jeans or leggings.

ANIMAL PRINTS. We’ve seen them on Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly (in the movie The Devil Wears Prada) some three years ago, but these safari prints are intended to appeal to the youth.

COVER-UPS. Ranging from knits to jersey, cover-ups such as cardigans, bolero and shrugs have functional designs, whatever concept you have in mind—put it on for a dressy evening or style it with tank tops.

JEWEL TONES. They aren’t going anywhere. Purple, green, and blue were colors that dominated last year, but from the look of things, they are staying. This time, turquoise leads the series.
