School is out, hello summer!

SUMMER camps, white-sand beach, tanned skin, sun block, neon-colored shirts and beach volleyball. These are some of the things that excite us when the summer breeze comes.  After endless nights of reviewing for the final examinations and thesis presentations, summer is indeed a wonderful time to reward ourselves. Now you can now finally say “Ahh... I can smell summer.”

Go to the beach and swim all you want!

Most of us love to go to the beach and we are lucky that we have a lot of white-sand beaches near the city. Plan ahead, bring your friends along, start packing and get ready with your beach gear!  Just be sure not too stay out too long under the sun to avoid harming your skin. So, just hang around the beach and chill and have fun!

Take a break and have a vacation away from the city.

You have been staying here all year long, living a busy life in the metropolis, taking in all the stress and challenges courtesy of your schooling. Summer is most probably the best time of the year to take a break and have a good time with your friends and your family. Get them to go on a vacation and commune with nature. Head out to a nature resort where you can be in the company of birds and fireflies. For sure, it will be very relaxing.

Venture into a business and earn while having fun.

You probably already know how important it is to save, huh? Some of us might already be planning a grand vacation using the money we saved during the school year. Well, if you haven’t been saving, it is not too late for you to earn money! We have read a lot about money-making activities, but the lack of capital always keeps us from pursuing it. So, the best way to earn without need for money is to have a rummage sale!  Set up a little table outside your house, bring all your unused or slightly used things and start putting price tags on them. Go around your village and get your friends to buy stuff from you. By the end of the day, you shall have enough to last you until summer’s end.

Join camps and jamborees.

Many organizations offer camping activities and jamborees during summer. Joining such activities will help you realize your self worth. Try visiting your local church or leadership organization if they have any activities for the summer. Leadership encampments and spiritual jamborees are good ways to take a break from all the hassles of your day-to-day activities. Take another step and unleash your potential as a teenager. In order for you to feel the importance of the activities during these encampments and jamborees, all you need to do is just follow all the tasks given to you. Don’t resist and just have fun while you discover your self worth.

Learn a new talent from summer workshops and clinics!

Most art workshops are offered during the summer break—from fine arts to performing arts to film and theatre, there are just so many courses to choose from! For those who want to perform, it might be worthwhile to join musical theatre workshops. For those who want to write, try taking up creative writing. There are also lessons in cooking, fashion design, sports and a lot more. Popular personalities from Manila also come over to Cebu just to give workshops, so grab the opportunity and learn a new talent.

Organize simple outreach programs

Allotting some of your time for your less fortunate brothers and sisters is one way to enjoy your summer. Tell your friends to pledge anything that they can donate. Try a feeding program or gift-giving. Go to your barangay hall or the nearest non-government organization and ask them to assist you. Plan ahead and keep a head count of the people you want to help. It is best to visit the area before your activity to get a feel of what goes on in the ground.
