Serna: Coco Martin: ‘Noy’ actor,co-producer, co-director

IT TURNS out I was not the only one who got piqued at the way Kris Aquino and Ai-ai de las Alas played their roles as judges of the ongoing Pilipinas Got Talent. When my column lambasting the two came out last week, some friends took their time to text or call me and expressed their agreement to my opinion.

The following day, a national broadsheet also carried a story about the sentiments of some fans and televiewers. I hope those articles (most probably carried online) reached their attention and those of the network’s big bosses.

Last weekend was just a breeze for the three judges as it was obvious that the contestants who fought for the second (final slot) deserved to be included. I hope the two lady judges will be more objective and careful in choosing the last finalist for the said contest this Sunday.

Since I watched Iron Man 2 one Sunday out of the need for a cool environment (where I could possibly drift off to dreamland for a while), it seems like my old pastime has been revived.

Last weekend, it was the Prince of Persia. This weekend will surely be Noy where lead actor Coco Martin is also the movie’s co-producer and co-director. If I’m not mistaken, the concept also came from him.

Coco is ably supported by Cherry Pie Picache, Erich Gonzales, Joem Bascon, Baron Geisler, Vice Ganda and Cheska Billiones. Also appearing in the film are Pen and Ping Medina, Jhong Hilario, Janus del Prado and Kristofer King, among others.

Real footages of presumptive president Noynoy Aquino’s campaign sorties are incorporated in the movie. As to how it affects the story is for us to find out. It’s a Star Cinema and Cine Media co-production.

Another possible target of my revived weekend pastime is the country’s first full-length musical movie entitled Emir, which is top-billed by Who Will Be The Next Big Star? champ Frencheska Farr. Playing supporting but significant roles nonetheless are Asia’s diva Dulce, Beverly Salviejo, Julia Clarete, Joshua Hourani, Kalila Aguilos, Liesl Batucan, Mahdi Varjani, Melanie Dujunco and Sid Lucero.

Direction is by Chito Roño. The dance sequences are choreographed by Douglas Nierras of Powerdance fame.

In her visit to Cebu during the Mandaue City fiesta, Dulce admitted that she had a hard time in the dance sequence as she’s not accustomed to the counting the steps and all. She relies more on feeling the beat of the music. She credits dancing as the reason why she shed off a few pounds during the filming.

Some of my friends in Cebu, who also happen to be in my Facebook contacts, have expressed their interest in watching Emir after I shared the movie’s trailer that Dulce sent to me.

She even posted that she might join our group in watching the movie because it will make her feel she’ll be in Cebu on or shortly after the opening date, on Wednesday, June 9. Wanna join us?

The popular group The CompanY was tapped by Aboitizland to entertain its guests during the grand launch of its new “baby,” the Ajoya, at the Pueblo Verde area somewhere in Mactan.

The new subdivision is described as a vibrant and modern residential community in Cordova, Mactan, which is uniquely crafted and where true Filipino family values are nurtured and shared within a community of generous landscapes.

Ajoya boasts of amenities like an open-air clubhouse, standard-sized basketball court, community assembly area children’s playground, al fresco picnic area, recreational pool and vast landscapes.

At the launch, The CompanY showed the Filipino aspect of the development in its repertoire of original and cover songs.

Needless to say, each number was followed by loud applauses.

One song (still to be recorded) was described by lead vocalist Moi Ortiz as inspired by a best-selling book (it divulges the unique traits of Filipinos). The launching also featured cultural numbers and booths featuring food, entertainment and games.
