Skycable starts offering digital television services

CABLE television service provider Skycable has started rolling out its digital services in Cebu as part of its modernization and expansion plans.

Last Friday, Skycable announced its partnership with Marco Polo Plaza Hotel as the first hotel in Cebu City to equip its first-class room accommodations with digital cable TV. Marco Polo Plaza has installed digital content of Skycable Silver in its 262 guestrooms and suites.

Skycable area director for Visayas Ronnie Pacio said the move shows the company’s commitment to deliver the best entertainment package to its preferred clients. Some 300 Skycable DigiBoxes were installed in the hotel.

“Skycable’s digital service is an improved customer service,” Pacio said.

Among the features of the Skycable DigiBox are clear reception, access to digital programming, on-screen electronic program guide that tells what show is on and what is upcoming up to the next seven days, child lock and channel surfing organizer, which allows one to arrange channels according to favorites and preferred sequence.

Pacio said the hotel will be getting eight new channels exclusive to Skycable. These are The History and Biography channels, Fox News, Asian Food Channel, ETC, Al Jazeera, Solar Sports and 2nd Avenue.

He said the hotel will also be getting some top-up packages like the new HBO Pak, which includes three new HBO channels like HBO hits, HBO signature and HBO family.

The HBO Pak offers three 24-hour commercial-free Hollywood English movie channels. Its HBO Hits provide unlimited access to Hollywood’s movie blockbusters. HBO Family, on the other hand, offers wholesome movie selection for the family while HBO Signature showcases original productions from HBO. The HBO Pak is offered at P350 a month in addition to the Skycable Silver subscription.

Marco Polo Plaza Hotel general manager Hans Hauri, meanwhile, said there will be no changes in the room rates with the improved digital services of the hotel.

Skycable will continue to deploy its services in the province phase by phase. It hopes to cover the entire Cebu Province before the year ends.
