Smart offers Blackberry to Cebu businesspeople

FOLLOWING its release in November last year, the popular Blackberry Storm will reach Cebu sometime in June.

Featuring the “clickable” touchscreen smartphone, Smart Communications Inc. will be offering postpaid plans to corporate businesses, as well as small and medium enterprises (SME), starting with Plan 3500.

The Blackberry Storm will also be available for personal subscriptions to Smart’s wireless consumer and “Infinity” groups.

During the Cebu laun-ching of the new offering last Thursday at Anzani in Nivel Hills, Smart and the SME group of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) considered the new mobile device as an efficiency and productivity solution for SMEs and individuals.

Jerameel Azurin, marketing head of PLDT SME group, said the company is optimistic that the Blackberry Storm will hit in Cebu as a growing number of entrepreneurs are “persevering and determined” in investing new technologies to support business operations.

Kat Luna-Abelarde, vice-president and head of the SME group, said the strongest users of Blackberry series are entrepreneurs.

“Everyone is going mobile now, even when it is not for business. The business sector, especially the younger generation, are more compelled to embrace technology since they understand the cost-efficiency it will generate,” she said.

Smart already accommodates reservations by customers who want to get Blackberry Storm units.

Chet Alviz, Smart head for corporate business group-wireless marketing, said there will be more than 2,000 units available nationwide through Smart.

He added that Smart can also integrate business solutions, like customer relations management, sales force automation and PLDT Watcher into the smartphone.

The Blackberry Storm features fast network access, SurePress touch-screen technology, media player and expandable memory, 3.2 MP camera, autoflash, autofocus, mobile streaming, video, file editing, built-in GPS and e-mail capabilities, among others.
