Sony Ericsson cell phones geared for entertainment

MOBILE phone maker Sony Ericsson has launched three new phones under a new product line in Cebu to cater to the “young and trendy” market.

The company intends to grow the Entertainment Unlimited handsets line next year, said Sony Ericsson Philippines marketing manager Patrick Larraga in a press conference last Thursday.

“We have three models for now, and this will be the last batch of phones (the company) is launching for the year,” he said.

Combined

The Entertainment Unlimited mobile phones combine entertainment features with other features of the Walkman and Cybershot phones.

But the selling proposition of these handsets, he said, is how their users are offered “a whole world of entertainment.”

Passport

For every purchase of an Entertainment Unlimited phone, the customer is given an entertainment passport that will allow him to avail himself of free movie or song downloads from Entertainment Asia, and discount coupons from Magnavision and Sony Music.

The package also includes a raffle coupon for a trip for two to the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa.

Under the Entertainment Unlimited line, Sony Ericsson introduces the first mobile phone gaming through motion or gesture gaming outside Japan.

The Kita, said Sony Ericsson product sales manager Vince dela Cruz, allows the user to make moves in front of the screen instead of using buttons to play a game.

Camera

The phone also comes with a five megapixel camera that already has auto focus, geo-tagging and send-to-web functions.

Kita’s music call feature also allows a user to share music with one button press while talking.

The second handset, called the Aino, allows one to access content from Playstation 3 through the Remote Play feature via a Wi-fi or 3G network connection.

Touch screen

This slide-phone also gives options to the user since multimedia functions can be accessed through its touch screen, while for short-messaging, one can use the keypad.

The Aino also has an 8.1 megapixel camera that has photo flash, 16x digital zoom and image and video stabilizer.

The Entertainment Unlimited’s top-of-the-line model, the Satio, is the first mobile phone with a 12.1 megapixel camera and a 3.5-inch wide touch screen.

This full touch screen phone also provides a near high definition (nHD) resolution based on a 16:9 ratio for widescreen format.

Facebook

The Satio is pre-loaded with applications like Facebook, Picasa Web Album, YouTube, Google Map and WorldMate.

Even though the Satio is the highest priced among the three handsets, Larraga said the unit is “doing very well” in the market based on retailers’ feedback.

The price range of the Satio is P29,000 to P32,000, while prices for the Aino start at P23,000. The Kita, geared toward the young market, costs P12,000 to P15,000.

Sharing

With every purchase of these handsets, a donation is made to the I-share ang Saya Campaign to support the Mobile Education and Child Protection Program for Street Children.

The program is a joint project of Sony Ericsson, SM Supermalls and the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).
