FAMED boxing training coach Freddie Roach is now in the Philippines to start pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao’s preparation for his World Boxing Organization welterweight title defense against former world champion Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas less than two months from now.
Roach arrived yesterday in Manila along with his ward, Filipina world champion Ana Julaton.
Roach will kick off the 32-year-old Filipino superstar’s training this month in Baguio City, where they will have high-altitude training before wrapping up their preparation at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.
“We will be preparing for a hungry and the best Mosley, the one who knocked out [Antonio] Margarito,” said Roach, according to a report posted on the ABS-CBN website.
Pacquiao is having the first title defense of the WBO crown that he won against Miguel Cotto in 2009, against the 39-year-old Mosley on May 7 (US time).
Meanwhile, Argentinean superstar Sergio Martinez still shows interest in a mega fight with Pacquiao.
“I would like to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., or Manny Pacquiao,” said Martinez in a report at the Examiner.com. ”Unfortunately, neither seems too interested in fighting me.”
Martinez has earned the recognition of boxing fans and experts this year, winning the 2010 Boxing Writers Association of America’s Fighter of the Year with a striking performance last year, beating Pacquiao to the punch.
He beat Kelly Pavlik by unanimous decision last April and then scored a second-round
devastating stoppage over Paul Williams.
