Lancers vs. Lancers-A A +A
Tuesday, August 2, 2011
THE University of the Visayas Green Lancers are still a force to be reckoned with in the 2011 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament.
The Lancers, who won the pre-season Cesafi Partners Cup under the tutelage of Felix Belano, are equally hungry, just like any other teams, to reclaim lost glory.
“We only had four new players in the team and most of them are from our high school team,” Belano told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
The four additions of the Lancers are center Rafael October, small forward Vincent Mendoza, swing man Arvie Cabañero and Wowee Cadir.
They replaced Elmer Mykel Cabahug, Emmanuel Calo, Paco Brian Delantar and Ralf Olivares from last year’s line-up.
Since they needed quality tune-up games, Belano and the Lancers management have arranged for a Charity Game for the 2011 Lancers against the alumni who are still actively playing in commercial circuits this Thursday at the UV Gym.
“This is just a tune-up match as part of our preparation for the upcoming Cesafi tournament. I have invited the former Lancers who are currently playing for M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Niños and others who are still actively playing to test the skills of the 2011 Lancers,” said Belano, who is also a member of the Niños squad.
Belano, who will not be seeing action for the ex-Lancers squad, got the confirmation from Ariel Mepaña, Bruce Dacia, Mark Ababon, Chad Harlow Villanil, Jayford Rodriguez and Morsie Akad and Rino Berami, while they are still trying to invite Neil Rañeses and Stephen Padilla to join the game.
The UV Baby Lancers squad will also have their tune-up game against the UC Baby Webmasters at 3:30 p.m.
Tickets are sold for P10.
