CEBUANO karter Juan Antonio Carcel has been out of the karting scene for quite some time. But he returns and did not fail to make a grand entrance as he took the Yamaha Cup expert class title of the 2011 Petron Super Karting Series at the Carmona Race Track last weekend.

Despite his absence, he remains on top of his game, as he defeated Auto Racing teammates John Castellar and Kim Lagman for the title.

Carcel, who left karting for a while to focus on his studies, said he missed the adrenaline rush when he is behind the wheel.

“It feels so good to be back after a long time. I missed it so much because I've been concentrating on my studies,” said Carcel in an e-mail.

Tonyo grew up to be one of the best junior karters of Cebu. But he decided to lie low a few months back and missed important races to focus on his studies. During that time, he also ventured into other sports like football. However, the young daredevil could not seem to shake off his passion for speed. And it seemed like he never left, even joining in two events.

He also raced in the ROK Junior division last weekend but bombed out after an engine failure in the pre-final race.

“This was one of the best races of my career. the race was so intense, there were so many overtaking, dicing all the way, we were pushing and pushing to get back with the main group after making mistakes or during after a collision, and the adrenaline rush was just wicked,” he said.

Carcel’s sister Kali saw some action last weekend as she competed in the novice category of the Yamaha Cup and finished fourth to Sacha Feliciano, Jaz Monzones and Basti Escalante.
