DODIE Boy Peñalosa Jr. (6-0, 6 Kos) will try to stretch his unbeaten run to seven in the fourth edition of the “Dugong Kampeon” boxing promotion at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.
The son of the former two-time world champion Dodie Boy Sr. will face Doniel Marcos (10-13, 1 KO) in the event promoted by GerryPens Promotion and GMA 7.
GPP head Gerry Peñalosa, who is also a former two-time world champion and the uncle of Dodie Boy Jr., said that he will try to get a slot in the Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Marquez match for his nephew if he scores a spectacular win today.
“We are going to see if Junior is ready for the big fights. If we think he’s ready, there’s a huge chance that he will be in the undercard of Manny,” Gerry told Sun.Star Superbalita yesterday.
Gerry said that even if they believe in the skills of Dodie Boy Jr., they are worried that he might suffer the same fate as Juan Martin Elorde, the grandson of boxing legend Gabriel “Flash” Elorde,
The young Elorde won his first 11 fights but lost in America when he battled an experienced fighter.
“It would be difficult if we rush him. We really have to make sure that he is ready so we won’t be embarrassed,” Gerry said. “Just like the grandson of Elorde, who is now having a difficult time getting his career back since he lost in America.”
Dodie Boy tipped the scales at 122 pounds yesterday, while Marcos was at 123. ESL of Superbalita
