Cesafi to tweak sked for City Olympics

TO HELP strengthen Region 7’s basketball team in Palarong Pambansa, Cebu City has put up a basketball team from the different public schools that will face the private school teams in the 21st Cebu City Olympics that will open this Sunday at the Cebu City Sports Center.
“We formed this team because we want to develop more players coming from the public schools to give them an avenue to have their potentials discovered and earn an educational scholarship grant from the different universities,” Vice Mayor Joy Young said.

He said basketball is the no. 1 sport in the country and that some Cebuanos have enjoyed basketball scholarships in big universities in Manila.
“We are not expecting a lot with the team but I believe the team is very competitive,” Young said.
On the other hand, the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) will make sure there will be no conflict of schedule between the Cesafi and the Cebu City Olympics, like what happened last year.
Last year, the University of Cebu and Cebu Eastern College were forced to forfeit their games in the City Olympics due to a schedule conflict.
“Just in case our top four secondary teams will be playing in the semifinals or championship in the Cebu City Olympics, we will do our best to adjust the schedule.
We will coordinate with the organizers,” Cesafi Commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy said.
For this year, Cebu City has also formed a sports committee that will supervise the training of the athletes who will qualify to the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association and the Palarong Pambansa.
“We are doing these changes and adjustments to make team Cviraa more stronger and I am confident that mu-taas ang points nato sa Palarong Pambansa,” Young said.
