NINETY participants have signed up for the Timex 226 Bohol Triathlon on Dec. 3 in Anda, Bohol.
Anda, which is some 100 kilometers away from Tagbilaran City, is holding the event as part of its tourism campaign.
“We want to develop sports tourism in Bohol, which is very ideal for triathlon events and we are looking forward to holding this race annually here,” race director Raul Cuevas told Sun.Star Cebu in a phone interview.
Cuevas added they are expecting to attract 200 participants as the race features an ironman distance of 3.8-kilometer swim, 180-km. bike and a 42-km. run.
“We also have participants coming from Singapore. Some of our Kona competitors told me that they will confirm their participation once they return,” Cuevas added.
The Pinoys who joined the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii last Oct. 8 were the triathletes who topped their age groups during the Cobra 70.3 Ironman Philippines in Camsur.
Three Cebuanos qualified in the event—Rochelle Tan, Lohriz Echavez and Noy Jopson—but it was only Jopson who competed in Hawaii along with Manila’s Wilfred Uytengsu, Lorenzo Ocampo, Efraim Manzano, Peter Ralph Gonzalez, Marco Dayrit, Fiona Ottiger, Rene Ricardo Tayag, Amanda Carpo, Ferdinand Louis Milan Catabian II, Allesandra Gonzalez, Ramon Rodriguez and Benjamin Rana Jr.
To join the Bohol race, a participant must have joined the Camsur triathlon for the past three years and must have finished it in less than 6:45 for the male and 7 hours for the female.
“We are setting a qualification for this race because we want to ensure the safety of our participants,” Cuevas said.
