TAGBILARAN CITY - Dao, a sleepy barangay off Tagbilaran City was brought to life with the secondary volleyball semifinals between Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa).
It was quite a performance from Cebu’s top teams that resulted in Lapu-Lapu winning and the small auditorium up in a joyous celebration. No one is from Lapu-Lapu City nor are they from Cebu but they are just Dao residents, happily cheering with the teams.

“Dili gyud ni ingon ani kadaghan ang tao diri bisan pa og naay fiesta. Perte gyud ka bibo karon tungod sa Cviraa,” said PO2 Jovanni Anasco, who was one of the policemen sent to the satellite venues of the Cviraa.
Cebu City lost that match, 25-11, 25-23, to Lapu-Lapu, which is represented by national Milo Little Olympics champion Pajo National High School. Cebu City will be relegated to playing for third place.
The rivalry between the two teams became so obvious that even the crowd felt it.
“Taga diri ra mi pero adto mi laban sa Cebu,” said a pregnant woman who watched the match.
Both teams have fought for the Milo Little Olympics Visayas title and both teams are made up of players from Catmon Elementary School.
Cebu City’s loss was however, not a reason to be devastated as Cebu City is leading in the overall ranking with 213 points from swimming, taekwondo, gymnastics, tennis and archery. Dumaguete was at a distant second with 112 points, while Mandaue was at third with 68 points.
The elementary jins lorded it over in the taekwondo competition winning both the girls and boys division. Aiko Ito, Veronica Garces, Mayn Coran and Ken Nadela won in their respective weight class in the girls division, while John Lapas, Charles Labiste,

The lead will be padded today as more points are expected to be added into the overall general championship points especially for Cebu City, which have pending points in athletics and gymnastics, which finished last night at the Maribojoc Cultural Center, a place 15-kilometers away from Tagbilaran.
Francin Ly Coyoca and Gayle Marie Arda led the team in the women’s artistic gymnastics. Coyoca swept the elementary division events, while Arda dominated the secondary division.
