CEBU’s top triathletes are expecting to strut their wares in the 2012 Sayao International Triathlon to unfurl at 8 a.m. this Sunday at the back of the Sibonga Municipal Hall.
Sibonga, which has already hosted a few triathlon events, is getting back it, but with a different and challenging version.
“Normally, triathlon events start with swimming, but here, we will have the 30-km. bike first, followed by a 25-m. swim in a pond, then a half-kilometer mountain run toward Sibonga’s scenic point,” Sayao Barangay Captain Jun Campo Narvasca said.
Not only are they promoting Sibonga’s sports tourism, but also conducting a fund-raising event, the proceeds of which will be used to build a multipurpose hall, which can be used as a training venue for sewing among their constituents. They will limit their race with one category open to all participants.
“We will only have top three winners in one category,” Narvasca said.
Top prize will be P20,000, second prize at P15,000 and third prize at P10,000.
Registration will be at the Sayao Barangay Hall. The fee is pegged at P300 and comes
with a shirt.
“We are very concerned about our participants’ health, that is why we are encouraging them to undergo physical fitness test by Friday, to be conducted at the Sibonga Municipal Health Center,” Narvasca said.
He said he will be coordinating with the Municipality of Sibonga on how they can accommodate participants who will be staying overnight.
